The Church of the Living God is a revelation from God! Let me explain. It is a revelation of God’s ability to call forth ordinary sons of men by speaking into their pliable fleshly hearts; thereby causing men to truly hear i.e. fulfilling the sound of God’s voice. The Greek word for Church is ekklesia (ek-klay-see'-ah) which means to call forth. By this definition the Church is those who have truly heard their calling. True hearing is fulfilling the sound!

Are we able to identify the infinite number of ways in which God might call (speak) to his children or define to what they are called? Of course not and If not, then how are we able to define the Church of the Living God? History is full of misguided men (Those who have not heard their true calling) who have attempted to define the Church of the Living God. On the other hand, there are those who have truly heard their calling, but have failed to see that others may be called to a totally different aspect of God’s Kingdom. Both extremes have resulted in a greatly diminished understanding of who, what and even where is the Church of the Living God.

As a result of the failure of men to hear God’s voice, innumerable presentations of “church” continue being imposed upon mankind. The result is condemnation and confusion. Instead of the breath of God leading the Church into the freedom of the Spirit, the breath of man’s works leads to bondage. Man’s self view of Church and his demands for others to comply with his views always leads to bondage. This is “religion” in a nutshell. The wrong kind of religion can be defined as a “church” who is not led by the Holy Spirit.

If the true Church is defined as those who have heard the call of God, then what is the Church supposed to look like? We must look to Jesus the Christ, the foundation upon which the Church of the Living God is to be built.

Jesus understood these misgivings of men and set out as a man to demonstrate the essence of how men are to perceive and partake of the Church of the Living God. Oh what love!

Jesus, our pattern son of man and anointed Son of God, knew that in order to build the Church of the Living God, the Church would have to have a God given revelation of the answer to the following question. “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the SON OF MAN am?” (Matt 16:13, emphasis added, KJV)

It is significant that Jesus asks his disciples two questions. First who do men say that I the Son of man am? Secondly, who do you (disciples) say that I the Son of man am? The disciples told Jesus that men were comparing Him to John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah and other Prophets. All of the men who answered this way could not yet truly define the person of Jesus, the son of man. Only by the same revelation of God the Father to the disciple Peter can sons of men understand who Jesus the son of man is. Simon Peter saw Jesus the son of man this way: “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matt 16:16)

Paraphrased Peter said, “Jesus, son of man, you are a man anointed (Christ means anointed), thereby the Son of the Living God. “ (Sons of God by definition are those who are led by the anointing of the Holy Spirit.) The anointing is simply an oneness (relationship) with our Heavenly Father. Jesus prayed in John 17, that men would become one with God in the same relationship that He had with God. Flesh and blood cannot reveal this foundational revelation which defines the Church of the Living God; only our Heavenly Father can do so.

When Peter realized that Jesus, a son of man, totally human was anointed (one with the Father), the Son of the living God, in an instant he saw the hope for all kinds of men. Peter saw that not only could Jesus, coming in the likeness of man do the works of God, but that he as a son of man could do the same and even greater works of God. Peter knew that this revelation would put an end to the works of the devil. The gates of Hell (Hades – to be without knowledge) cannot prevail against the knowledge revealed to Peter. Peter was given the knowledge of who is Jesus, the son of man and the Christ (anointed) Son of God. Through Jesus (Son of man) the Anointed One, communication with God the Father (New birth) has been given to the Church enabling all who will hear to fulfill the will of God in the Heavens and Earth. “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus (Son of man) Christ (Son of God).” (1 Cor 3:11, parenthesis added, NAS)

Is it possible to define the Church of the Living God? My attempt to define the Church of our Living God would only confine it. We are all a part of the definition and I greatly rejoice over Jesus’ wonderful bride!

Who is the Church? 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
