Eph 6:10-18

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. (KJV)

In September of 2002, while in early morning preparation to minister in Burlington, North Carolina, the Holy Spirit began to show me a very practical purposeful relationship between the full armor of God (Eph 6) and the heart motives of believers regarding the total deliverance of all saints.

Why do I desire to put on the whole armor of God? I began to see the seven aspects of God's full armor as simply a God given heart condition with an emphasis on the believer's loving desire and attitude for total salvation of all saints. Ephesians 6:11 & 18 declares the central focus and purpose for putting on the whole armor of God. The whole armor of God is needed to stand against the wiles (trickery) of the devil. Putting on the whole armor of God enables me to successfully watch (discern) and defeat the lies and trickery of satan. Compelled by the love of God and a love for all saints I continuously adorn the full armor of God.

With this loving purpose for placing on the full armor of God in mind, let's look at our enemy and each component of God's armor with which we are to reign in victory.

Remember that our strength is in the Lord and in His might (Eph 6:10). We are not wrestling against flesh and blood.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is II Corinthians 2:14 which says, “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” (KJV)

In the armor provided by God through the triumphant Christ, saints everywhere are now empowered to destroy the works of the devil. It is in the knowledge of Christ's finished victory over all sin that our armor becomes totally effective and victorious over the schemes of the devil. The devil has been defeated. God has filled our storehouse with all provision necessary to walk consistently in victory. Our role as purveyors (suppliers of provision) of the victorious armor of God is to convict and convince, in a Holy Spirit life demonstration, all saints of this fact.

We must demonstrate that true bearers of the armor of God are not on their way into the Holy of Holies, but are on their way out of the Holy of Holies. The cross has forever (once…on one occasion and for all) empowered us to enter into His presence where there is life now and forevermore. It is only from this heavenly perspective of the finished work of Christ (in us) that we will be victorious in finishing our course(s) of faith…faith the victory that overcomes the world.

(1) “Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth.” (Eph 6:14a, NAS)

The loin area of man is the place of reproduction. Jacob came out of a wrestling match with an angel of the Lord having been struck in the loin area (hip) resulting in a limp to his walk (Genesis 32:22-32). Jacob was one who, though all of the promises of Abraham had been given to him, persisted in self-efforts to produce the promises already made available to him. Jacob's limp would be a constant reminder that it is the truth of God only that will produce the promises of God. God gave Jacob a new name to verify that Jacob had learned the lesson concerning producing and reproducing the Kingdom of God . And he said, "Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed." (Gen 32:28, NAS)

{Israel means he will rule as God; Jisrael, a symbolical name of Jacob; also (typically) of his posterity: -Israel. Israel comes from a primitive root sarah (saw-raw'); to prevail: have power (as a prince).}

God's word tells us that abiding in the word of God produces truth. Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word, {then} you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32, NAS)

Abiding (living, moving and having our being) in the word of God produces truth. We are told to stand firm which means to continue, abide and take up residence in the living word of God.

Jesus prayed for all saints everywhere, “ I do not ask Thee to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil {one.} They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth. As Thou didst send Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” (John 17:15-18, NAS)

As Jesus came into the world free from sin, He has sent all saints into the world totally set apart (free) from producing evil. We now are producing knowledge of truth setting those who remain captive to the lies of the evil one free. It is the Church of the Living God with Christ as the Head who are purging the heavenlies of evil…producing a new heaven and a new earth.

Prayer: Father God, thanks for Your heart's desire and love for truth. Father, because You desire truth in our inward parts, we now have a desire in a greater way than ever before for the total freedom available from abiding in Your word and knowing the truth. Lord, we believe that our loins are girded about with truth and that we will continue to produce and reproduce the Kingdom of God in the earth…In Jesus' name.

(2) “And having put on the breastplate of righteousness.” (Eph 6:14b)

God is righteousness. The first five letters of righteousness are right . Simply said…God is always right. God is never wrong! The righteousness or correctness of God is imputed unto us as we have (covenant or agree with) God's word i.e. having faith. Romans10:10a tells us that as we have faith in our heart, the righteousness of God is imputed to us.

Our literal heart is located in our breast (chest) and is protected by a plate of bones known as the rib cage, backbone and breastbone. Just as a good strong heart strengthens the rib cage, backbone and breastplate by providing life (life is in the blood) to these areas so will a heart which desires the righteousness (correctness) of God produce an impenetrable breastplate of protection from the wiles of the Devil.

"But seek first His kingdom and His RIGHTEOUSNESS; and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matt 6:33, NAS, Emphasis added)

If God is adding things to us because of His breastplate of righteousness protecting our breast (chest), we can therefore with certainty know that nothing is being subtracted from us. With the breastplate of God's righteousness protecting us, the Devil can subtract nothing from us. Praise God forevermore!

Prayer: Father God, thanks for Your heart's desire for Kingdom of God rule and Your righteousness. We declare that You are always right(eous) in all things; therefore we humble ourselves unto Your right(eous) rule over our soul. Having put on Your breastplate of righteousness absolutely guarantees that the wrong evil schemes of the devil shall never rule over us in any area of our lives…in Jesus' name.

(3) “And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” (Eph 6:15, NAS)

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was manifested to destroy the works of the Devil. God's heart is to restore His Kingdom in its fullness in the Earth. Jesus came into the Earth to do the will of His Father. As we prepare our feet by walking out the will of God for our lives, then the good news of peace (wholeness of God) is attested to. There is a wonderful scripture which declares the work of our God of peace as we walk out (obey) the will of God for our lives.

For the report of your OBEDIENCE has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good, and innocent in what is evil. And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. (Rom 16:19-20, NAS, Emphasis added)

In this passage of scripture the Apostle Paul encourages the believers in Rome by commending them on their obedience which Paul says is obvious to all. Paul also encourages them to continue in the wisdom of obedience and to expect the God of peace to crush satan under their feet.

Peace, which is spirit, soul and body wholeness (I Thes 5:23), is a result of feet preparation. The whole purpose of our walk of obedience is to declare our God of wholeness in and through His Son Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

I believe that overcoming believers must have a great zeal for life. The first message from the resurrected to life Jesus was, “Peace”. Let this speak to your heart! Yes folks, God is into living and living and living and living! Because I am willing to obey the voice of my Heavenly Father, I believe that my God of Peace sanctifies me unto wholeness in my spirit, soul and body and that Satan is crushed under MY feet. Praise God forevermore!

Prayer: Father God, thanks for giving to us your heart's desire for life. Jesus Christ came that we might have life and life abundantly. Lord, we know that in order for the Devil to be totally placed under our feet, we must have a zeal for the whole life of God i.e. total spirit, soul and body wholeness. Having our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel (good news) of peace is our armor against the warring schemes of Satan, the thief who came to steal, kill and destroy. Lord, we declare that our walk will continue to attest to You, our Prince of Peace…in Jesus' name.

(4) “In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil {one.}” (Eph 6:16, NAS)

Typically flaming missiles are synonymous with arrows, which typify words throughout the Bible. Note the following verse. “Who (counselors of wickedness) whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words.” (<Psalm 64:3>, NAS, parenthesis added)

The wicked have arrows (words) but unfortunately for counselors of wickedness, God has an unlimited supply of arrows (words) and look what happens when God releases His word(s) against the evil words of the enemy. “But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.” (Psalm 64:7,8, NAS)

Have you ever really considered the importance of words? Volumes of articles and books have been written concerning the significance of words. The Apostle John wrote, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our (word of) faith.” (I Jn 5:4, NAS, parenthesis added) Faith comes by hearing; hearing by the word of God.

Our word of faith (faith which God gives) will not only extinguish the flaming missiles (words) of Satan, but as a result will overcome all of the world systems of Satan. Again see the importance of words. Satan has no present power other than words. Satan is the father of lies and there is no truth in him. Satan's power can only be realized as we hear and do his words. God commands us not to, “Give place to the devil.” (Eph 4”27b, KJV)

Jesus averted an untimely death and reprimanded some Jews who desired to kill Him as He wielded His shield of faith . "I know that you are Abraham's offspring; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.” (John 8:37, NAS)

If God's word has no place in you then satan's words are there. As we have stated, Satan's lies (words) come forth to steal, kill and destroy. God's shield of faith (His words) will always destroy the words of satan. Jesus had a word of faith from God, His Father as to when, where and how He was to die on the cross for the sins of the world and no word from those without the word of God would alter God's plan. This is true for all believers. If we have the sure word of God as our shield of faith then no imp from hell can alter it. You will live and not die and fulfill the will of God for your life.

Prayer: Father God, give us your heart's desire to have your faith. Instead of being unnecessarily burned by the fiery darts of the enemy, let the fire of Your faith burn in our hearts, quenching all enemy darts. Lord, we declare victory over the world as we are armored with the shield of faith…in Jesus' name.

(5) “And take the helmet of salvation.” (Eph 6:17a, NAS)

Man is created in the image of triune God (Gen 1:26, 27; I Thes 5:23). Man is spirit, soul and body. I believe that our helmet of salvation must be related properly with our soul. It is generally accepted that at least the soul of man is comprised of his mind, will and emotions. It is also understood that these three are located in the head of man. Our heads need protection…thus the helmet of salvation .

The core of triune (spirit, soul and body) man is the soul. III John 2 says, “Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just (inasmuch) as your soul prospers.” (NAS)

This scripture reveals that triune man's Godly well-being is contingent upon the prosperity of his soul (at least the mind, will and emotions). We are begotten into the Kingdom of God as a Spirit man (John 3:6-8) and the real you is who you are in the Spirit of God. This verse says, “That YOU may prosper.” The you is your spirit as it relates to the Spirit of God.

The verse also says, “Be in good health.” This generally alludes to the body of man. Again, this verse says that my spirit is prosperous and my body is healthy inasmuch as my soul (mind, will and emotions) prospers. This significant relationship between man's spirit, soul and body simply verifies that we are created in the image of triune God. Let me explain.

We have established that it is the prosperity of man's soul which brings good Godly effects to man's total well-being. Paul wrote a clear description of this same prosperous relationship between God the Father, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.

“Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same (Holy) Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord (Jesus).  And there are diversities of operations (an effect: the power or ability to bring about results; efficacy!), but it is the same God (the Father) which worketh all in all.” (1 Cor 12:4-6, KJV, parenthesis added)

It is clear that in relating triune man to triune God that our spirits are created in the image of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit deposits spiritual gifts and revelation in OUR SPIRITS.

Next we see that of course our bodies are created in the image of the Lord Jesus Christ and are created to administer (walk out) the will of God. It was said of Jesus that in Him dwells all of the fullness of the Godhead (Father, Word and Holy Spirit) BODILY. That leaves God the Father which must then relate to the SOUL of man.

God (symbolic of the soul in triune relationship) is the Creator of all things visible and invisible. God and God alone PRODUCE the effects or power of creation. As new creations in Him, our now prosperous God quickened soul is empowered to prosper our spirit and body bringing forth a whole man who is truly in the image of our Godhead (Father, Word and Spirit).

I Corinthians 2:16b says , “But we have the MIND of Christ.” Christ means the anointing i.e. a pliability (heart of flesh) with the heart of God…knowing at all times the mind of God. I John 2:20 says, “You have an unction (christos; anointing) with the Holy One (God) and know all things.”

Is this true or not? Do you mean that right now I know all things? Yes! How can this be so? If this is so then my helmet of salvation (rescue, safety, deliverance, peace, righteousness and joy) must be presently in place. Do you not realize that God's redemptive plan of salvation (helmet of) is a finished (past tense) work for NOW…the present tense which is eternity?

Prayer: Father, thanks for Your heart's desire for us to know in truth that we have Your mind in the mind of Christ. Father, I thank you that in the instant of my decision to heed your calling and to be begotten by You (born from above), I received ALL OF YOU. I thank You Father that whatever I need to know, whenever I need to know it, that You will release Your mind concerning me. I thank you that I do not have to go to heaven or under the Earth to find a word for my soul. Why? Because the correct word (word of righteousness) IS nigh unto MY MOUTH and in MY HEART! Thank you forever for my new birth into YOUR KINGDOM thereby empowering me with the HELMET OF SALVATION.

(6) “…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17b, NAS)

Again we are able to talk about the mind of God. The sword of God's Holy Spirit is the word of God…which is the mind of God. Only the Holy Spirit of God has the right to wield (handle, use, exercise, govern) the sword or word of God. Even Jesus consistently told us throughout the gospels that He only wielded the sword or word of the Spirit as God spoke. Jesus never initiated anything on His own but always allowed the Holy Spirit of God to word initiate His life.

Is it any wonder that Jesus was totally successful in overcoming the Devil and sin? Our Heavenly Father alone has our plan (sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God). True Sons of God are led by the Spirit of God. As we well know the successful defeat of the last influence of evil in the Earth is contingent upon the body of Christ knowing that we are sons of God.

Again, by definition, sons of God are those who as Jesus, hear and do the word of God. This Father son victorious relationship is moment by moment as God by His Holy Spirit releases to each His (God's) measure of a word of faith. Remember that in the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, Satan tempted Jesus by all that is in the world (lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and the pride of life). Satan asked Jesus to respond to these temptations based upon Jesus' revelation of His Sonship.

This is why the wilderness test is essential! It is in the wilderness temptations that our sonship is established. If we are sons of God, then we will hear God's word (sword of the Spirit) faith and overcome the world and all therein which may solicit us to sin and death. Our full inheritance is in the Land of Canaan which means humility . True Sons of God (those who have passed their wilderness test of sonship and can hear God) will be arrayed with a beautiful mantle of humility. This mantle is the release of the full grace of God to receive the Land which God has given to all (now).

Let me go one step further and say that the sword is two-edged for this reason. Not only does God reveal His word of faith to you but His word can come in at least two ways. If we do not understand that this is true, we are subject to not hearing God's spoken word for the occasion. In II Samuel 5, we find that King David defeated the same enemy twice by two different edges (directions) of the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. In order for King David to have total success over his enemy, he was told by God to come from a direction 180 degrees on the compass from his first attack direction. This sure sounds like a God given two-edged sword which knows how to gain the victory over our enemies.

Prayer: Father, thank you for giving us Your heart's desire to always hear Your voice. Jesus the Son of God demonstrated to all of heaven and the world that in His intimate hearing relationship with you ,that all that is in the world is defeated. When Jesus said that, “I am the way, the truth and the life”, He was saying to all of mankind, “Look at my relationship with my Daddy!”

Father, we ask for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in order that we may know what is the hope (full expectation) of our calling (God's destiny being spoken into our lives). Father we want to know the riches of Your glory (our inheritance) and the exceedingly great resurrection power now available to all. Father, we thank you for a true heavenly perspective concerning the already finished work being revealed now. Father, we love You…You are the Word and the sword of the Spirit. Amen.

(7) “…with all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view (to this end), be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all saints.” (Ephesians 6:18, NAS)

This verse is saying that it is we must know that it is now possible to always be on the alert with all perseverance and to petition in behalf of all saints. Again, with a revelation view of God's empowering, overcoming armor, our heavenly perspective must be one of due season (now) victory. The Lord Jesus Christ said that, “In that day, whatsoever you ask in my name, I will do it.” What day was Jesus talking about? Jesus was talking about the day in which our view of the now available (since the cross) empowering armor of God has filled our hearts with compassion for total salvation for all saints. It is a day when Christ (the anointing…a oneness with God) releases all resurrection power to put the devil totally under the feet of Jesus Christ and His Bride.

Prayer: Father, thank you for giving us Your desire to pray and communicate with You. We thank you for Your compassion and desire to bring salvation (full) to all saints. We thank You Father for giving us a heart for safety and that You have made us tabernacles of Your presence. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in Earth (We are earthen vessels) as it is in Heaven. Amen.
